Wasnt sure of the Belichick/ Spikes relationship... just remember hearing something during the broadcast where they were saying that Spikes is a Belichick type of player and loves the way he plays.

Theres a lot of smoke saying Spikes was IR'd for missing a meeting. They had a rocky relationship

quote:

In his prime, I would have said Wilfork is more impactful than Spikes. But hes out of his prime. 32 years old and coming back from an achilles tear. And when he did play in the early part of the season he was having his worst year by far. 5 total tackles in 3 games and 1 series. Not good. And i like WIlfork too. Hes just not the same player he was in the past.

I disagree entirely. His impact isnt always felt in the stat sheet, but its there. The season before this one, he played on 90 percent of the snaps on defense. Thats way more impact than Spikes has ever given

quote:

And I like Mayo too. But when he was playing this year he only had 1 good game and it was vs Cincy. And hes pretty much the opposite of Spikes. Not good against the run (30 out of 35 OLBs on PFF). He was 14 out of 35 in pass coverage though. Which is solid. But overall rankings he was 28 out of 35 OLBs. Def was 1 of his worst years when playing.

He was a team captain and one of the more sure tacklers weve had since hes been here. I dont see how you could disreguard him like that after one mediocre 1/4th of a season. Brandon Spikes is not in the same league (figuratively) as Mayo.

And I forgot about Nink

If there ever was a "clutch" defensive player, its him.

quote:

And McCourty is a damn good FS. Wouldnt call him the best haha

He was the #1 rated FS this year by PFF, #2 at worst. Hes vastly underrated. Without him the Pats defense goes to shite.

You just cant be one of the "most impactful" if you only play 2 downs and the Pats wont be hurting without him.

quote:

And I agree that Nicks contract wont be as high as people or Nicks thought it would be due to his play this year. But hes still a good WR and somebody will make a dumb move and give him a good payday. Bigger than the Pats could afford. Plus, the Pats already have 2 pass catchers that are injury prone in Gronk and Amendola. Doubt they go sign Nicks in FA.

Im not really saying they will either. Just in your original thoughts i felt you overrated his market value

quote:

Collie was signed in early October. He played and caught 2 passes vs the Saints on Oct 13. Only took him a week to grasp the playbook better than a guy that went through mini camp and beginning of the season?

Hes had experience in a complex offense that was run by Peyton Manning. Hes exactly what you look for in a veteran stop gap solution. There is a reason he got cut 3-4 times

Most rookies struggle pickin up the playbook, surely this isnt news to you?

Ha yea man rookies struggling with the playbook is news to me

But the fact that it only took Collie 1 week to get the playbook down and on the field and producing tells me that Boyce has huge issues with it. Regardless of Collie playing in a complex offense with the Colts. He was signed and took him a week to get a brand new offensive playbook down well enough to where he got on the field. Boyce had multiple months to learn the playbook. Collie had 1 week. KT and Dobson are rookies. They didnt seem to have that much trouble, if any, at getting the playbook down.

And I agree Mayo is better than Spikes. But you are undervaluing the hell out of Spikes. He is 1 of the best players on the Pats D. And I dont think you are disagreeing with that. But your using the fact that hes only a run stopping LB. Well, Jimmy Graham is strictly a pass catching TE. Shane Vereen is strictly a change of pass back. Point is, being a really good run stopping LB is a skill that will always be valued in the NFL. Regardless how many times teams throw the ball now. If you cant stop the run, you will have a hard time winning the game.

And what kind of contract do you think Spikes will get in FA? Your acting like its impossible for them to sign him or wont even try. I dont see him getting big time $$$. Why wouldnt they at least try?

And we hi-jacked the crap out of this thread

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats take Jarvis Landry but he might not go until the 2nd or 3rd. He would be a stud with Brady throwing to him, better than Welker ever was, and he could be a beast on special teams. I could also see them taking ODB Jr in the first though and I doubt they would take 2 WRs in the first 3 rounds.
