I was a sophomore pledge and Chem-E major. My grades were shitty that semester but it was more due to my lack of focus than being a pledge.
Ended up finishing in Civil engineering. It's not impossible. He should do it.

If it matters that much to him, he'll join a fraternity that will cut him some slack for school work. If it doesn't matter that much, he'll go Kappa Sig or something and his grades will suffer
