I've witnessed a 700 misfire first hand. My brother has one we were sighting in a few years ago. Had it in the sled, pushed the safety forward and it went off. I jumped his arse and told him he had his finger on the trigger. Chambered another round with me watching closely, same thing. That gun was manufactured around 2002 or so.

My 700 is from 1968 I believe and I've never had an issue.
