OK, since you asked...

When a so called "local community" sells their local independent business down the river by means of tax breaks and incentives for big box stores to take over the local economy with promises of a big jolt, they are sticking it to them, the people, and economy long term. They are sticking it to local business and the real free market by not making it a level playing field for all to compete in by giving special privilege and advantages to out of state companies that locals don't enjoy or can take advantage of. They raise the price of real estate which stymies the local free market capitalists from being able to compete because of the unfair playing field created by local government and politicians so they can put a feather in their cap, claim growth, and get re-elected. They make sure that the REAL wealth never stays in the local economy, but in the hands of out of state corporations, lawyers, banks, bankers, investors, and all who work for them, including the citizens of the other state, and never to return to that local economy. Instead, local economies are made to be content with a discounted amount of property tax collected, some minimum wage or not much higher employment, and sales tax that would be gathered just the same with local business in the area, but except nothing these box stores sell benefits the local economy by means of support or growth because it's also from out of state, so it's a once and done benefit for the area. They get some gristle, and the money is gone, never to be taxed again in the area to fund the infrastructure.

Conversely, when I buy from say Bob's bait and tackle for instance, and I buy a lure from him that is made in Denham, a boat made in Watson, and a paddle made in Walker, the money stays in the area, and goes much much further in funding the infrastructure of the area everyone lives in by means of multiple taxes collected when money is exchanged than had I spent the same money at a Bass Pro and it's once and done. I've also supported and help to create and sustain many more local jobs and wealth than buying from Bass Pro has given, and by a great deal. Certainly that makes sense, right? That's how local economies work, and how they have always worked or are supposed to work.

As was just illustrated, the jobs created are mostly garbage, and when these box stores and out of state strip mall nonsense takes over and becomes your city, owns it lock stock and barrel, and IS your economy, you are actually creating far fewer jobs than had you elected to support local businesses, industry, retailers, and the real job creators of the area, local entrepreneurs and capitalists. That's America. What we see today is Corporaterica, and they are robbing us blind. Additionally, how they go financially, so do you because you are now joined at the hip with nothing else to fall back upon when they fail.
