These numbers aren't all real world scenarios. First, it just takes people who bought the Prius over a corolla. What about buying it over other vehicles which more than likely have lower mpg than the corolla? Same for the ecoboost. What vehicles will be passed up for it? I can bet not all of them are as bad as 14 mpg.
Then you have the "better" claim in this title. Better compared to what? Not to each other, but in comparison to completely separate vehicles which I can claim using almost any two I want as long as the mpg are different enough.
