see, this is the info I was looking for. I know there's two seats on the barrel.
So is it supposed to sit on the one closest to the barrel?

Yes. You will be able to tell when the spring is loaded correctly as it is not supposed to sit on the second ledge. It is easy to make this mistake when cleaning and reassembling quickly. I did it once and could not figure out what in the hell was wrong. I even took the pistol apart at the range and didn't notice the spring. When I got home to clean I realized what was wrong so I went back to the range after seating the spring correctly and it cycled like a champ.

I'm pretty damn sure it is seated on the ledge right up against the barrel but will surely go check again.

I did that once before on my G20. What is the purpose of that second spot?
