I'm going to need a translation on that one, because it has me freaking out for you

Haha no no Im back home now. I was denied boarding at my gate at Frankfurt airport due to not having a Canadian visa (they changed the rules to where now you need a visa to transit unless you are a US citizen). My only option was to book another flight direct to the US. Cheapest fare was $1,200 for the one way. I found availability on some flights on Expertflyer, pieced together an itinerary and fed it to the agent at the airport to have my current ticket rebooked for $95. Got home the same day I was supposed to.

The multiple entering and exiting the schenghen zone through passport control on the same day must have tripped some flags and I got the SSSS printed on my boarding pass. Basically a type of a watchlist and stands for Secondary Security Screening Selection which means they pull you aside and could do anything from a pat down to interview to inspecting all your luggage/docs etc. A huge headache until they remove you from there on their whim.

Are people messing with me? I can't tell, I'm new to this thread, but I'm loving it.

A bunch of people get this if they visit Istanbul now these days as well.

In other news:

I booked biz class seats from IAH to LIM via San Salvador for July. The stop only costs about 1.5 hours in travel time and we're getting there in the middle of the night so that doesn't really matter. Landing at 1:40 AM and have already just burned some Avios on the 2 x $80 ( ) RT flight to Cusco at 4AM. Never could burn those things so why not? Skipping through Lima since my wife gave me a very short period she could do.

Will book AUS - IAH in a while. Should be a neat little surgical strike of Machu Picchu

I've burned through my Starpoints so I may just pay out of pocket for Tambo Del Inka in Urubamba, but if someone has some other hotel choices or options I need to think about in the Valley or in Cusco, please let me know.

If anyone is interested I saw a ton of availability on that route, where I wasn't finding much of anything on United or AA websites for Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, etc etc

Would rather get the SSSS at an overseas airport than at a US airport. My wife got this on a Tokyo to Chicago segment, and all they did was search her carry on luggage. I got the dreaded SSSS on a Chicago to Montreal segment last year and was searched and then interrogated by a CBP/TSA officer by the name of Ahmed (I should be profiling him instead of the other way around!).
