SPG

worth it?

I have 75K on my Hilton AMEX right now and since it's so inflated, I'm thinking of burning them for a vacation or something and looking into SPG.

My dad has Hilton, Marriott and SPG and has always said SPG is the best value, but the hotels seem to be lacking of late.

The real value of SPG is for airline transfers since every 20,000 point transfer comes with a 5,000 mile transfer bonus. SPG has something like 30 airline partners. I have it for point diversification (you never want all your eggs in one basket when a devaluation occurs) and for those random airlines I may need to book that I don't have miles with. I haven't used it yet, just building the point balance with it and may need it come honeymoon time or future date.

But its always listed in the Top 5 or so cards for a reason and a FT favorite so that's enough for me.

Also SPG allows for "Household" point transferring, so that's awesome as that doesn't require a legal spouse like Chase UR does.
