Ya but even if her score goes up, would she still be able to get one even without income? She's likely to be in school until she's 27 or so, and maybe even more.

Regardless of the income situation, right now she needs to build the credit score up and cross the rewards bridge later.
I will say this, my credit score wasn't stupendous when I started, but I have good income and a long credit history so they just looked the other way
When her time comes it comes. That's what doesn't get talked about. It all takes time.
