early signing period

This is why there needs to be a early signing period by early as September 1, that way you totally eliminate all this diva and entitlement crap that is going on

I appreciate the sentiment but a number of these kids select a university because of a coach...what does one do when the coach is fired or chooses to coach elsewhere?

I don't understand why people think this is the solution. The ones causing this "drama" (which I put in quotes because it's YOU that makes it drama) right now still wouldn't be signed even if there was an early signing period.
Yeah, guys like Voorhies, Battle, Paris and Harris would have signed, but who cares? You don't hear anything with them.
Since you are probably whining about Godchaux like an immature boy, let's put it like this:
Say Godchaux signs in September. He hurts his knee like he does but knows LSU honors his signing. However, LSU still goes out and picks up 4-5 more DT recruits and now the injured signee is scared he won't get as much playing time due to his predicament.
See, this great early signing period that you think of has too many holes and thus why you won't see it happen. But thanks for trying

It's the athletes decision of what is best for themselves, we as fans get to sit back and enjoy the process.
The kids who are strongly committed to a given school early may sign, but not necessarily.
The drama/diva crapola would still continue down to the wire for a vast majority. Therefore, we as recruitniks would not be spared the "show".

And early signing period is necessary, if not for anything other than helping coaches out, and keeping recruiting costs down. You could have special "outs" if a head coach leaves.
The only way to combat this bizarreness is for schools to offer to way more kids than they normally would and force the players hands more. Welcome to the new world of recruiting, where social media and smartphones have made traditional recruiting almost impossible. Get used to more of this if we don't change our philosophy of protecting The Fence.
Increasing the pool of good players we offer is the only solution to getting quality committments earlier, and that won't happen if we stay obsessed with "The Fence". We'll need to go national in a big way in order to stop getting played by instate recruits.
Again another big time shout out to LF

I say just start the signing period in September and have it end in Feb., i.e. one long signing period. That way when a kid "commits" he can actually commit and just sign an LOI. No more of this "I am committed, but I want to still explore my options" nonsense. If a kid "committed" in October but wouldn't sign his LOI, then the coaches would know for sure that this kid really is not a "commitment."

Exactly, people want to get pissed at the kids for selecting there future somewhere else (decommitting) because a coach left or whatever, but they bid a nice farewell to a coach who just ups and leaves after a few years. These kids are young and they need the right training to perfect their craft. If they went to a school because they thought they'd get better training there, then the training leaves, what's wrong with them leaving too?

September is way to early in my opinion, but I think they should do away with the dead period and quiet period and make signing day the first Tuesday after the New Year Holidays.
Many of these kids start getting recruited at a very early age, so why does it take 2-4 years to determine where the hell they want to go to school?

If there was an early signing period, we'd be screwed by now. Our staff is trying to get top players from other schools to flip to us.

Some of it is a little trolling, some is "beg for me", some of it pre-planned by other schools to damage another, but mostly it is like a game of musical chairs, where everyone goes round and round till the music stops (a big commit). After the smoke clears, they do it all over again until another commits, then another. By NSD there are just a few left, then it usually is pain for the incumbent school who usually loses a long commit.
It's ugly, for sure.
