I just started hunting in the last year and have only hunted in Mississippi & Sherburne WMA. Looking to hunt a little closer to home and was thinking about Maurepas. Is this a decent place to hunt? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Better bring your waders and get ready to walk. If you going in on the west side, you might want to stay off the private land. Duck hunt is a no and deer is iffy.

If you go, you probably won't go back.

Very swampy and hard hunting. Knee deep swamp water in a lot of it. Hard to find sign, no high ground, hard to walk quietly. They have some big swamp donkeys out there, but not many-mostly small bucks. Because of the land, the deer/acre ratio is low.

I love it, but it's not for most people.

Hunter kill ratio was highest in the in the state prior to Isaac. 1/11 efforts. It's shitty now, wait a few years and it should be good again.

I know a guy who killed 3 nice ones this year over there, but it is extremely hard hunting!
