Personally, I like value-based keeping. Where you draft a guy determines what pick he counts against the following year. You set up the "cost of keeper" value in advance.

For example, let's say your "cost of keeper" penalty is 2 rounds. If you draft a guy in the 9th round, he would count as your 7th round pick the following year if you kept him. In this format, keepers picked in the top 2 rounds would count as a 1st round pick or not be eligible to be kept, determined by your league rules.

This is exactly how we do it and it works great for us.

Also, in order to be eligible for keeper, he must be drafted and remain on roster all year. Therefore, no FA pickups can be kept.

Thats how we do it. I prefer that over the "im gonna keep Megatron" type. It makes the draft more interesting and it makes it more difficult to find sleepers, because everyone is looking for them.
