^^ But in a 9mm.
Or even better, get the M&P Shield in 9mm.
As a general rule, anyone who picks a mouse gun because it's "too uncomfortable" to carry a moderate-size weapon (Glock 19, M&P, HK, etc.), or because the moderate-sized weapons are "too big," is either (a) not serious about carrying, or (b) is an awfully good shot under stress.
I say "as a general rule" because there are folks with medical conditions that preclude carrying a moderate size gun. And I know a couple of my students who work in NPE's who are forced to carry a mouse gun for one work shift/day.
Of course there are always the coeds and soccer moms who are too hung up on their sense of fashion style to make accommodations for carrying a moderate-size gun. I think their priorities and sense of reality are warped.
Outside of the folks with medical or work restrictions, there are really few (if any) people who have a good reason to pack a poodle shooter.
Clint Smith has had a lot to say on this topic (Google is a good search tool -- he doesn't post on this board).
Essentially the .380, .32, .25, and .22LR mouse gun carriers either (a) have a highly inflated opinion of their "on demand" shooting skills, or (b) place a really low value on their lives, or (c) believe all the internet BS about how the meth tweakers, bath salt smokers, crack cocaine abusers, gang bangers and psychopaths are gonna run as soon as you flash that little .380
But that's just my interwebz $.02 worth.

This has been my experience when talking to people about CC.
If you're serious about carrying and want to protect yourself if the need should arise you can make it happen. If at all possible I have a full size 1911 on me with my .380 as a BUG.

How much more accurate is a 9mm than a .380 under stress 10 feet from your assailant, where most scenarios of you needing to draw your firearm would occur?
The answer is that it's no more accurate. You are going to point and shoot a 9mm just as accurately or inaccurately as you would a .380 at that range. Most people aren't going to consistently carry if the gun is uncomfortable or difficult to conceal, and a pocket gun is much better than no gun at all. I carry my subcompact 45 from time to time and it's very manageable and comfortable but not as comfortable as the P238. I'd trust my life with either, as long as it goes bang bang bang I feel safe with it. I think the need to carry a "full sized" firearm because anything smaller is "inadequate" is the warped sense, not vice versa. I've never had a .22 stuck in my face but I imagine I would shite my pants, because i'm not going to think to myself "hey that's a .22, I can take a few of these to the chest no problem." I'm going to think "shite, there's a gun in my face"
Just my interwebz .02
Agree to disagree

Just read this part. If someone isn't frightened by the sight of a .380 then they're not going to be frightened by any other handgun. Does a .45 have more stopping power than a .380? Absolutely, but several shots on target with either is going to stop an attack 9/10 times. The noise alone is enough to let the attacker know shite just got real. Barring a headshot, if a guy is tweaked up enough to run through a few .380 rounds then he's probably tweaked up enough to run through a few .45 rounds.
Bottom line, if you can hit your target you've got a really good chance of escaping unscathed. In the scenario that a pocket .380 doesn't stop an attack it's unlikely that a full sized 9mm would either.
Anyhow, if I can hit my target with even half of the rounds in my .380 magazine I feel confident that I could finish defending myself from my now holy attacker with my pocket knife and bare hands. I'm ruling out the possibility that the tweaked out assailant is carrying a gun or two, because a dopehead would have pawned his gun a long time ago

Not according to someone who's cooler, banged more babes and kicked more arse than you'll ever hope.
Proof. The tilt of the glass says it all.
