I work with kids who have no chance and they don't make decisions as bad as he has.
Hell one of my kids saw his dad stab his mom. Yet this kid is going to get academic scholly. I better tell him to blame the state so he can get on tv.

It's absurd. Since they're getting to age I've had several of my kids come back to tell me about offers either athletically or academically. Kids that grew up with neither parent, have been abused, etc.
I mean if he's gotten himself together and gotten his shite right after all of that more power to him. A lot of people don't. But painting him, or his family, like martyrs is ridiculous.
