Totally disagree. This is a gimmick. LINK Option plays are basic fundamental football that has been around for decades, in one form or another, and will continue to be around for decades. The basic concept is so simple - make the defense commit, then go the other way.

not much different that Auburn's play where the ball is snapped and no one on the line moves, or the half-huddle/rush to snap play, or the goofy extra point thing they do.

Gimmick...
1. something designed to attract extra attention, interest, or publicity
2. any clever device, gadget, or stratagem, especially one used to deceive
But I'm not really using the term "gimmick" in a derogatory manner, but these plays typically succeed when the defense is fooled, not simply because the offense lined up and won the play. In cases where the defense sniffs the play out, it typically goes no where.
