With the Surface pro 2 having a usb port and being able to use xbox controller, was wondering if anyone knows hows it play games and what games it can handle??? One advantage i have seen it has is that you can use a portable hard drive for movies and games etc., and it being able to play emulator games.

It has an i3 w/ 4600 graphics.
Not too many. DoTa, LoL, SC2 if you're into that. Indie games should also run great with it.

It is definitely not a "gaming" tablet

I'm no expert, but the big fella at best buy is pretty sharp and up to speed on all the cool devices and he said this tablet/computer is pretty bad arse. He said it will run any game with no problem and is 16x faster than my dual core laptop. I really want to get it, but it's over $1k with the options that I want and I know they will come out with a nicer faster surface next year so I'm going to hold out, mostly because of the new USB port that is being developed. It's so difficult to know when to pull the trigger on these things because there are pretty substantial technological developments happening every year and you want at least a couple years before it is labeled "obsolete". The previous year surface, for example is a dinosaur compared to this year. My buddy had one and couldn't give it away. Now the surface is all the rage, but again, I'm no expert and I'm relying on the guy from best buy for this information.

Ok, so I clearly said I'm no expert so why are you "rolling on the floor laughing"? What's so funny? Are you telling me that one of the leaders, possibly the biggest gaming and computing company in the world has put out their newest, fastest computer/tablet and it's a big joke? Please explain. What computer do you have, and please tell us why your computer is so much more bad arse than the surface pro 2. I'm seriously considering buying one of these in the next year so any information you can provide would be great. Sorry if I sound ignorant, but honestly, that's exactly the case when it comes to gaming because I'm just getting back into it after a long hiatus. The guy at best buy assured me that the pro 2 was "the" computer to get. Please elaborate on what you find so amusing about my post and do tell what computer you would reccomend over the pro 2.

Guys this is coming from the large fella at best buy who really seems to know his shite. Sorry, but that's what he said and I have no reason to think he's just trying to sell me something because I made it perfectly clear I wasn't buying one until next year and they don't work on commission. Can you tell me why he would be bullshitting me?
ETA: and seriously, what computer/tablet should I get? What do the expert pro hackers on the gaming board reccomend? I'm just a noob scrub trying to get info before I commit to a computer.

Look at the 410 or 510
if you are looking for a laptop that has decent gaming capabilities for a decent price. Since you are worried about the $1k price tag of the Surface Pro.
If you are looking to spend $1k+ then you could get better gaming laptops, but honestly your best value is going to be to build your own desktop.

I'm not worried about the money as much as I'm worried about them coming out with an upgrade to the surface pro next year that has the new USB and some other technological advances and I'm stuck with the Pro2. I read that the Pro3 will be substantially different in terms of speed and capability, so I'll probably just wait. PC mag says by the time the pro 4 comes out it will be a legitimate game changer.

Well I don't know much about building computers so I'd be very reluctant to attempt to build my own. Anyway, thanks for the info. For now I'm just going to hold out for the Pro 3
