I have one as well and love it but for all around deer I'd take a .308 instead.

Not following you... please elaborate. I realize this is not a truly "like" comparison, but in commonly available cartridges the .257 has a higher velocity and more energy.
Caveat: I am not a ballistics expert and also am a proud owner of a .308
