Great movie. For me not just one of the top comedies but top movies across genres. John Candy was an underrated actor. Truly a shame his weight did him in as he would have just gotten better and better with time... although he kept doing a lot of mediocre/crappy movies like Cannonball Fever, Who's Harry Crumb, Hot to Trot, Nothing But Trouble, and his unfortunate finale... Wagons East.

He was great in dramatic roles and should have gotten a lot more offers.

It actually makes me sad when I think that John Candy is dead. Just reminds me of my childhood and the 80s

Candy could and did single-handedly carry otherwise bad movies like the one's you've mentioned. Goin' Beserk was otherwise terrible but Candy managed to make me laugh out loud several times. The guy was money.
