Completely agree and we all know how much "starter from Day 1" is overused...NOT here. IMO, he is probably the 2nd most important prospect that LSU is going after...NOT saying he is the 2nd best player LSU might sign but is darn close to that. Fournette of course is #1 due to probably LSU losing multiple RBs to the NFL draft. But you add in the embarrassing MLB play this season with the obvious talents, ratings, and who went after this guy, I put him #2 as most important signature to get on a LOI.

I concur with all of this - it is easier to come in and play (start is too strong) a skill position than it is the line. That is not quite as true for Mikes and even less true for QBs but it happens. However, in Garrett's case, we need a Mike like it is nobody's business - he looks like a prescription for what ails us at the position.

(But honestly, I hope we have 2 or 3 guys not named D.J. Welter who can play Mike next year, although I have not been as down on him as others have - as bad as our defense has played at times, Welter's play appears to be a symptom of a larger problem).
