I believe you csn buy a long gun
just not a pistol.
just not a pistol.

If the gun is in your name probably not a problem at all, but it is not legal for child under the age of 18 to own a rifle or 21 for a pistol. (I might be confused about having a gun in the vehicle)

If you tell them its a gift for a child. Don't do that.

Then why the hell do they make youth models? who do they think they are for?
who the hell doesn't give their kid their first deer rifle for birthday/Christmas?

Recently my 17 year old went to south Texas to hunt with his buddy. I called the State Police to check on the law about him driving with a gun in his vehicle. LEO said he could not be in possession of a firearm in his vehicle at age 17. 18-rifle or shotgun 21-pistol.

no worries, my 6 yr old does not have a drivers permit.

Well every kid in louisiana broke that law

curious, what is the maximum age of a youth hunter?
what is the legal driving age in La?

This is so damn stupid. I frequently went to school with one in the truck after morning hunts during high school.

so at 16 you're no longer a youth hunter you no longer benefit from age because they feel a 16 year old hunter has the intelligence and firearm safety to adequately handle a firearm. but for 2 years you have to suffer by having someone else drive you to go hunting even though you are a legal driver in the state. and all of this in sportsman's paradise where they are active campaigns to get more youth involved in outdoor sports.
BRILLIANT!
BRILLIANT!

You shore is angry.
Just one of those laws that's there but everyone breaks it. If you tell the FFL guy that the gun you are buying isn't for you then he has the right to refuse to sell to you. Probably won't but why rock the boat. For all he knows you could be an ATF agent.

Technically no, you can buy a firearm as a gift if the receiving person can legally buy one for themselves. I forget the clause on the form but it's there in the fine print.

So go to store with son
Have son look at the guns to see what we like.
Have him hold them to check balance and weight.
Have him shoulder them to assess length of draw.
And finally compare the available choices with him to decide on his choice.
Then look the dealer in the eye and in front of my son in an effort to break the law tell him bald faced and completely transparent lie.
