Everytime I've asked someone for help in retail they just tell me something to make me go away.

So if you walk in and ask for one what is their response? I wonder if you could cause enough of a scene to get one.
Holding back stock is a very common practice. I remember holding back stock for after black friday (so you could sell out on low priced items and not lose as much) and holding back stock for cetain sales or times. It stinks, but it is what it is.
If someone finds out, you just say "I'm sorry, but our policy prevents me from selling it until a certain date. You'll be able to purchase it at said date". I was also told to say, "Oh yeah, we're out of stock now, but we'll have some on Monday."
