Where you are signed in a round usually dictates how much you get and if being signed the first of your position also plays a part. Just from the last 3 drafts, you see there is a 13 mill difference from 3rd and 28th.
Richardson will be the last running back taken in the top 5 for a long long time. He was supposed to be an AP, once in a lifetime type back, and is looking like a bust.

exactly, and the 2nd contract is where a lot of players will be making significant $ now. Coming out a year earlier gets you 1 year closer to that and guarantees that you want get Ciron'd
Minter absolutely should have left as well, especially with him already obtaining a degree.
Most of the defenders who went pro, should have went pro with the exception of Logan and Montgomery. Montgomery may be the exception, but that has more to do with his immaturity and big mouth, which I doubt another year at LSU would have fixed.
Ware and Ford were burried on the depth chart, Wing wasn't going to be welcomed back,

This is the flaw in the OPs argument. Getting to that 2nd contract one year earlier, if the player ends up being successful, will more than make up for anything he "lost" on the first contract by leaving early.
