I don't think there's any reason to redshirt him. He's our starter next year. Let him get out on the field and at least get a little used to being out there in the stadiums and college game conditions.
I don't think his plays are meaningless at all. Take a look at the two plays yesterday. On the throwback pass, the coach sent a message to him that he trusts him to throw the ball BACKWARD to another player who is not a receiver... Then trust him again to make a reception on the same play against a tough defense, the best we have faced. That sends a message to a player that is critical to his development as a playmaker, even if it fails. Then, he scored a touchdown on a simple sneak. It was his first td, and now he has one under his belt. Now that little psychological barrier is out of the way. More will come now. The first td is always the hardest.
Bottom line: even without a redshirt, we have three years of Jennings as a starter. By that time, I'm sure we will have another qb in the wings causing us to have this exact same discussion in the future. This is really not a problem, folks.
