The LEO is hired by the school AD to provide security. They are not assigned the gig by their supervisor and they only have the right to interfere if:

they are asked by officials

They are asked by game management

There is a disturbance

There is a crime

This guy Short was there as a fan, interfered with the game and then escalated a bad situation into a dubious arrest of two game officials

I wonder what happened before all of this. Were words exchanged with the crew? Were words exchanged between the SPS chain gang and the unauthorized mandeville fans on the sideline. Was short agitated from his buddies and the SPS chain gang? Was gambino agitated from dealing with those mandeville fans?

At a wild guess...

1) the official wanted the fans moved because they were being douches

2) Short didn't want to get shown up in front of his crew, didn't comply and told the ref to mind his own business,

3) both sides got chippy and vocal but nothing happened to warrant an arrest,

4) Short makes the arrest before the official can go over his head,

5) the head ref gets arrested for asking what in the hell Short thought he was doing,

6) the other cops catch Short's back and West stupidly ups the ante later by claiming the entire arrest was kosher.

7) the supposed "witnesses" get informed that if they stick to their stories, the charges will remain and they might have to testify in court under oath and they get cold feet once life starts to get real for them
