The extra weight alone of the 3/4 ton helps it handle the load better. But diesel is not needed unless your towing over 10k frequently.

No he could get a 3/4 gasser...

The problem with 1/2 tons and 5th wheels is you kind of paint yourself into a corner on your options. step up to a 3/4 ton and there isn't much on the 5th wheel market that truck couldn't handle.

Ive got a 35 ft bumper I pulled with my 1/2 ton but I didnt want to go far. I now pull it with a deisel and you dont even know its behind you so I would go anywhere with it.

Before I bought a camper I would do some numbers and figure up where all you go and stay in cabins etc... for the price of a camper. No up keep, clean up, or anything then and I have a feeling you could go quite a few times a year for what you pay on a camper. For us this wasnt really an option because where we like to stay only rv camping is offered.
