Freak has high mock value right now. I think he's played well considering the doubles he takes.

There are a few things really hurting Freak. Chavis hardly ever blitz with the LB's so the OL never has to worry about breaking off to pick them up. Freak is always Double Teamed. Also other than Kwon our LB's are not very physical. They don't plug a lot of holes. This keeps the RB's from having to hesitate. That is when a lot of quick DT's make plays. Our DE's do not keep containment very well so when a running play goes outside it is hardly ever forced back inside. Our DE's also do not have to be double teamed so they just double team Freak and Ego. Then the biggest thing is no depth at DT. Freak plays way to many plays especially when he is getting double teamed every one of them. Both he and Ego will be much better pros than college players.

Freak didn't get as doubled as much against MSU and he took advantage of it. But I agree, people are selling him short. I'm just shocked we aren't recruiting more LBs. It's clearly a major weakness and obviously Chavis has no confidence in the younger guys if they can't put Welter on the bench permanently. I don't know what happened to Barrow but he has looked really bad at times this year too.

DT will be a major concern next year. We don't know how the development of the younger guys is going. Mickey Johnson can't even get into the game and we don't know how Bain/Gilmore are doing. I think we'll be ok on the edges. Hunter has a lot of potential and is still learning. Don't know what's wrong with Rasco but I'd have to imagine his injury is slowing him down. With the recent dline class we got plus the incoming one, I'd have to think somebody will emerge on the edge. DT will be a big question next year though. Secondary should be good...in theory. With that big LB class we got a few years ago somebody has to emerge besides Kwon...

It starts up front though. Until we get consistency there the secondary will continue to struggle with no pass rush. We need S, DTs and LBs. Maybe Willis could slide inside if he keeps growing.
