We were lost and confused vs UGA.

Half the time 1 DB was in man coverage, while the other DB to his side was in zone.

Its not a talent thing, its the mental mistakes that are killing us. And that can be fixed.

IMO, we were trying to get to complicated with our coverages. Just run a cover 2 man. I know Mills can guard a guy man to man. And im sure some of our other CBs can. He was great at that last year as a freshman. I mean really great. And Im pretty certain Dwayne Thomas can too. Out of high school he was 1 of the best cover CBs in the nation and it looks like nothings changed at LSU so far. He might need to see more PT.

Get back to basics and run the cover 2 man press with the DBs jamming the WRs at the line and have creative blitzes that we are so used to seeing.

It was almost like we were running a coverage where if 1 WR goes here, this guy jumps it, if another goes here, this guy jumps it, and if this TE goes here, this guy gets it. Its a coverage based on what the opponents routes are, and that can work but only if all the DBs see the same thing and react the same. And clearly that wasnt working. You dont have to be creative in coverages. And I would rather a guy get beat 1v1 where the WR makes a great play or the QB makes a great throw than get beat by making mental mistakes and looking lost.

Guys it's not talent we have talented guys in our secondary. The problem at UGA was that most of the time the coverage was busted and I have a friend that is a DB he said it wasn't one guys fault. On multiple occasions audibles were made from the sideline and only half the Defense heard it. It wasn't communicated well enough or fast enough so the LBers and the nearside CB and S heard but the far Corner and Safety didn't. One time everyone got it, but the safety I believe it was Micah who didn't get the call. So it's not talent we have sufficient talent. Communication and experience is all we need to get down. Playing against a good offensive team doesn't help either especially when Murray 4 year starter knows exactly what you're doing and how to pick you apart.

This. GA ran some really nice route sets that were designed to confuse our young DBs and it worked. What I have seen is we are in the right position scheme wise but a step late, also everyone is playing their man and not playing the ball which is typical for young DBs, that's an experience thing.
Now, if you give a good QB like Aaron Murray, JFF or AJ 4 to 5 seconds to go through his progression someone is ALWAYS going to be open, you cant cover that long.

We gave up two long TD passes to Auburn the week before. Were we lost and confused then also? Or has a weakness been exposed?
