Tiger Band had a $640 stipend back in 1985 when I joined. That was equivalent to one semester of in-state tuition. It had just been raised to that since tuition had been just raised as well.
It was $640 until 2008. They raised it to $1000 in 2008 as a way to compensate getting crappier seats.

This is what I meant. It's not really a "stipend" per se any more--these days, it's more like real pay...yet they actually play less than pre-2008. I know they are instructed not to play when there are commercials on the JumboTron, but the band's admins should really fight whoever insists on piping in all this music. It's one thing to pipe in music when the band is walking to and from the field to do its halftime show--obviously, the band can't play then; but it's a whole other thing to pipe in music while the band is already sitting in place in the stands. It seems like opponents' bands play twice as much music as the GBFTL does these days.
