It's different because in the Yahoo report, players had direct relationship with agents outside the relm of the school. As long as the schools didn't provide access to said agents and are forthcoming in their investigation about what happened (which is what got USC in trouble), the schools are in the clear.

In the SI report, the coaches were the facilitators of the wrongdoing.

Now, having said that, remember, Les Miles is untouchable in the SI case. The SOI is 4 years and can only be extended in the case of ongoing violations. So, if the NCAA finds that the Gundy regime did somethign wrong, they can go back to the entire Gundy regime for the same violations. But, Miles' association with OSU ended the day he went to LSU.
