Runningback Degression

It might just be me, but it seems every one of our runningbacks decrease in performance through their college careers. For a couple examples, first Spencer Ware was doing well in his earlier years at LSU. The following season, he seemed to just run with his head down and run right into defensive players. He seemed to loose the ability to maneuver through the D.
Ware was then replaced by the freshman Hillard. He was performing very well his first year. Last year, he seemed to do the same thing as Ware did previously. He just runs into closed holes, as if he will somehow run over 300lbs D-linemen. This is where Hill took his place as starting RB, since Hillard couldn't get it done like the previous year. Hill was able to run with his head up, paying attention to holes opening and closing.
My fear is that Hill will follow the same digression as Ware and Hillard did, when he finally is allowed to play.
Am I just on my own planet or has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering if this is due to improper coaching or something else.
Edit: should clarify that I am referring to players after 2010 season
