For all of the injuries we've had at LB, we're still looking pretty good going into the season with Galette, Hawthorne, Lofton, and Harlason. Depth will be the real issue now.

LB corp is looking really strong with a lineup of
harlson - lofton - hawthorne - galette
I wouldn't be surprised if we ranked up there in run defense

After his addition I feel much better now. He and Galette will likely be the every down guys with Wilson coming in as the Joker rushing in key spots and in passing downs.
Having Wilson and Richardson as basically your two deep is as solid as we can get right now. Man, I can't wait for the season to see this come together.
Just think if Butler could come back even at the end of the year (I know unlikely.) if not, well already be very solid at the OLB spot with 3 young, now experience guys with an experienced and accomplished vet to lead the way.

Agreed. With the injuries, a group of Tez, Martin, Richardson, and Humber as depth is about as good as you can realistically ask for.

If the Dline plays as well as they have, the OLB position won't be an issue. They'll be helped a lot by Jordan/Hicks/Foster getting pressure on their own.

1000x.
I mean, we do need some competent guys playing olb, but the d-line will dictate how effective they'll be.

who would have thought we'd be saying this after last season?

Absolutely. I wasn't trying to diminish the importance of the position, but they will help each other.
Can you imagine Atlanta's RT trying to block Galette with Jordan or Hicks on that side too and the C/G trying to double Bunkley/Jenkins....Whoever isn't getting doubled will have one guy to beat.

What I've been screaming.
Everyone says the OLB is the most important, but honestly, without a good DL that gets pressure and takes up blocks, that rush OLB isn't worth much.

Jordan and Foster are ranked number one and two, respectively, for overall production among 3-4 DEs so far in the preseason...with walker not far behind.
Now, those stats are skewed for foster and walker (not playing starters).
However, Hicks seems to be having some trouble as his rating is pretty negative.
On the other hand, Jenkins and bunkley are both performing pretty averagely, with Jenkins ahead.
I think Jordan and foster might be making our DL look better than it is right now.

Talking with a scout while watching #Falcons-#Titans: Right tackle is a big issue for Falcons. They helped with TE or RB and still struggled

Wish I would have caught the Falcons game the other night. Seems O line is a major issue with them. I'm curious to see how this plays out. Has Matty Ice had good protection throughout his career? Or has he had average pressure?

IMO, I'd like the starters to be Haralson - Lofton - Humber - Wilson with a heavy rotation of Galette in pass rush situations. I think that would be ideal.

I have a feeling Matty is going to be on his arse quite a few times come week 1

One of the radio hosts this morning said Lamar Holmes "looked like he was on roller skates"
They're probably laughing at our defensive issues/injuries right now so I won't get too excited
Also, it's fun listening to ATL radio. When they found about Smith the responses were
"That defense is bad and just got worse"
"They were looking to Will Smith to anchor that defense in the 34 switch and be the rush off the edge"
"They were really looking for Will Smith to have a big season...."
I'm not sure any of those statements is accurate

Their offense use to be very vanilla. Lost of curls and outs. No screens. Now they're more vertical passing, and they've incorporated screens/bubble screens, quick slants. There are ways to make up for poor pass blocking, but if they get behind, it might be hard for them to get back in the game.

Tyson clabo was a great offensive lineman.

I'd say average pressure at least. Their oline has been an issue for a few years now. I didn't see the solution as releasing your RT and your Center retiring to replace them with rookies or 2nd year mid round draft picks. But hey...I guess that's kind of what we do
