re: In terms of the fanbase's hatred, is Bama on the level of USC circa 2003?

How is this even a question? A team we last played in the 80's versus a bitter rival with our old head coach.
2003 had nothing to do with USC. They didn't duck us, they just lobbied for votes to get a split, big deal. Had the role been reversed LSU fans would of been pleading for a split.

I have a feeling y'all are being underestimated by the media by just a tad.

you do realize that usc was #1 in both polls after the regular season. the coaches poll was contractually obligated to vote sugar bowl winner #1. AP wasnt under such obligations.

The 2004 and 2005 Trojan teams had spectacular offenses, and maybe slightly above average D's. The 2003 and 2008 SC teams had the best D's I've seen at SC maybe ever. We'd need a really good D to beat a team like LSU because as the Vince Young Rose Bowl showed us, if they get a stop and you don't, you're done.
04s defense was just as good as 03, they had pretty much everybody back except kenechi udeze. it was the 05 defense that was bad.

It was a closely, tightly played game that could have gone either way. Thankgod, LSU had the better defense. But you would not be able to make those kind of mistakes against SC because they were the kind of team that capitalized off mistakes. Superior passing.
that game was not close to anybody that knows anthing about football.

Nope! Hate for USC was because they claimed what they didn't earn on the field. Bama almost earned theirs if you don't count the mulligan championship. Should of at least gave the Tigers a shot at them on our own home field, since we beat them on theirs.

USC would have been a much tougher game than Oklahoma and LSU squeezed by them
They dominated OU. Just not on the scoreboard. OU avg over 600 yds a game that year and LSU held them to like 152 yds. imo OU had a better defense than USC that year. Plus the game being in New Orleans. I like the Tigers chances. But that is just me.

2008 yes. 2003 not as good at all imo.2008 USC defense was an all-time great.[In the pac-10].

USC had a pretty good D in '03. They shut down OU pretty much in '04 and the '03 D was slightly better. Plus, as I mentioned SC threw the ball much better than OU. They were known for their passing attack back then.

Ok. Lets try this. Who would have done better in the SEC in 2003? USC or OU? And would either one have less than 2 losses?[ I know we can never find this out] But its just a question. Btw are a USC hater?

USC had a much better passin attack than OU as I keep sayin. Leinart was slinging it to Mike Williams, Reggie Bush, and Steve Smith. They were putting on a clinic back then blowing teams out. They could have easily gone through the SEC and they did play some SEC teams back then. And of course they were blow outs.

If you lived in southern california from 2002-2006 then you would really hate SC... I still hate Bama way more though.

Ok. Jason White and OU had no passing game? Look at some of the scores and passing yardage from 2003 OU. But. This is not about that. imo USC was better than OU on certain levels. I just Think LSU would have beaten USC in that game anyway. Just sayin.

Sure Okie could pass the ball. But White only had Clayton. Leinart had 3 good targets that I mentioned. They were phenomenal passing the ball back then. And it would have been a interesting game, but I can't say that LSU would have beaten them like you are.

That defense of LSU'S was some impressive that year and I think Saban would have come up with a plan to stop USC just like he did OU. But, I will say as far as a coaching matchup that year. Pete over Bob by a mile. Football is a game of matchups and a lot of lucky bounces. I will step back and say LSU may not have beaten USC rather easy, and say I still think they would win.
But back to the hating part. I am not the type to get all caught up in hating another team. I respect programs that are real good at what they do on a consistant basis.

I never truly hated USC because I knew LSU would beat them. Bama's much worse because they're up 4-3 since Saban got there.

Of course. But having the #2-#3 match up winner jump #1 in the AP Poll was not that far fetched of an idea going into the game.
AP didn't do anything incorrect either, other than vote a way LSU fans disagreed with.
