LSU was one first down away from winning both of those games. The Bama game, sure, passing was our best shot at moving the ball. But the Clemson game????? LSU had 2 downs to get 2 yards!!! So in our infinite offensive coaching wisdom we decide that rolling Mettenberger out of the pocket (where he had completed about 15% of his throws on the year) was a better option than handing the ball off twice to Jeremy Hill who was averaging 10 yards a carry. If the 3rd down pass wasn't batted down at the line of scrimmage it would have certainly been picked off one of the two defensive backs swarming the intended receiver who was running yet another short hitch.
