Actually the last 5-10 or so years, local shrimp have been at an all time low in price (without inflation even factored in---with inflation factored in it would be way worse) due to the flood of cheap asian import shrimp.

And fisherman have never received government subsidies. Some have received government tariff money but that revenue was generated by the tariff money off of the 1 billion+ pounds of imports every year.
