Because Magic has become his name. He would probably introduce himself as Magic. Alex Rodriguez wouldn't introduce himself as A-rod.

Magic Johnson has part of his real name in it. It's basically like Babe Ruth or Yogi Berra.

Dr J and RGIII are total replacements for the real name. You never see "RGIII Griffin"

IMHO A-Rod has been A-Rod so long he's approaching that Dr J-RGIII level.
