Kurt Hester
Here's a good article on the new Head Strength and Conditioning coach for Tech. He has an impressive resume. Was assistant at LSU and learned a lot from
Skip Bertman.

He trained my team in HS. He's a hell of a strength coach. I'd attribute much of the turnaround in my HS's (St. Paul's) football program to him.

St. Paul's blew for a few years when training with Kurt Hester. Katrina turned that program around.

Sounds like a good coach, but how many times can he put up 225?

I trained under Kurt in high school, he's the fricking truth.
I'm happy he's doing well at LA Tech.

Which part had you rolling on the floor laughing, this first part, which is true, or the second part, which is also true?

I also worked with Kurt while in high school and college. Dude is a good guy and knows his shite.

Elaborate on why you think both are true.. please.
ETA: I'll give you 2003 (the first year under Kurt). We went 5-5 that year.

And they were bad in 03-04 and mediocre again in 04-05.
And are you acting like it's some coincidence that St. Paul's started to get real athletes around the time St. Tambernard moved in?

In the 2005 season (post Katrina), we had 2 transfers from the South Shore - both from Brother Martin. Both were freshmen. One of them, Justin Toepfer, stayed at St. Paul's, but didn't remain on the football team. and the other, Joey Fontana, went back to Brother Martin later that year (he ended up signing with SMU in 2009).
ETA: Fontana played very sparingly during garbage time in a couple games. The other kid never played.

That's fine. It was one season that coincided with Katrina. But Katrina has definitely changed plenty since.

All I'm saying is that St. Paul's benefitted minimally, if at all, from Katrina evacuees.
I'm not saying that they didn't have a little "Magic" help them out by getting kids that would normally go to Covington High, but they had always sought out those kids to come play for them - it was just the fact that St. Paul's started winning, namely beating Covington on a yearly basis, that they started enrolling at St. Paul's.
ETA: and much of the turnaround in performance is due to Hester's speed and strength program.

ISWYDT....
In the early 90's the northshore had a massive amount of families move from the southshore. Most of these families were traditional catholic families that would see it no other way but to keep the tradition of sending their kids to catholic school ,even though you were out of the city and the publics were A ok. About the time these kids were in high school was right about the time sps started to get the ball rolling.
As for Kurt. I trained under him during high school and worked for him one summer during college. He is without a doubt one of the best trainers in the south. La Tech got a good one. And yes, Kurt helped sps a shite ton.
