Add in eating out and entertainment, clothes, and a few other things a month and you're lucky to actually put $500/month in savings....enough for one nice vacation a year.
It's awful easy to look at $100k on paper and think you can't spend it all up, but it goes much faster and easier than you think...

Many people would consider that "well off". Its all relative.
