The thing that kills most rifles of all make and model is dirt and grime. Dirt and grime was the reason these rifles failed in their first generations. Dirt and grime cause extra friction which wears parts faster. The forward assist was added because of dirt and grime impeding the functioning of the bolt carrier group. The fact that the Army teaches, in the event of a misfire, Stop, Pull, Observe, Release, Tap(the foreward assist), Squeeze proves the necessity of it.

Forward Assist was added to assist with "silent" chambering. The corrective action for misfires due to dirt and grime impeding the BCG is to clean the rifle. Shouldn't happen in the first place, with a well maintained rifle.

I mean we are talking about a rifle for the range and the occasional hog hunt people. Why we getting into all this Army shite? Of course the environments are a bit more dynamic.
