Very much.

Just cool to play the game and it looks like it does in real life. Not having the QB run around with a kicker facemask or a WR with a lineman facemask.

Its very time consuming. Especially at the college level.

When I worked for a development studio for a next gen console sports game, we contracted a scouting agency to use a proprietary quantifiable rating system, that they developed in house, to give us their impression of who should be rated what.

Granted, we could tweak who we thought should be rated differently, but for example - EA would more than likely overrate Manziel on the fly because of his hype while leaving a guy like Jeremy Hill to rot because you'd imagine most of the design team who teak this material would likely know more about Manziel, Gillislee, Clowney etc than Jeremy Hill.

The fault most likely lies in the hands of the agency tasked with quantifying objective ratings than in the hands of EA. Especially when they know their customers have such of a long history of simply adjusting what they want and communities of custom rosters exist in such a prevalent fashion.
Gamers are essentially doing the work for EA for free in that sense.
