Middle to late 80s was the decline of baseball cards. Topps overproduction of that crappy wooden framed looking border saturated the market. Now its hard to figure out which sets are worth collecting. If you just want cards he can play with buy them from Walmart the sell packs. If you are looking for nice sets that may have some possible value in the future go to the topps webpage and look around, they have a few sets that look nice that they sell in limited numbers. I had a friend who owned a shop in Ohio and he told me back in the middle 90's to just buy individual rookie cards from shops it would save me money because really it was the only cards that would hold their value if the player turned out to be HOFer. But with baseball sometimes you can't tell who the rookie is because some stay in the minors forever and then come up have a great season 5 years after they were drafted. So they will call it that guys rookie season but its not it was 5 years ago when he got drafted.
