re: Most overrated/underrated Saints players, all-time

I don't see where any Saints fan said he was a "great" player. He was a decent QB on some horrible teams and is remembered as such. Once again, how does that make him overrated?

Personally I don't think Archie's best play was really the equivalent of an okay player, and in that regards I think he gets a little bit to much love.

I didn't say this at all, and why are we even talking about Trent Dilfer.
No, you said this:
quote:
His record as a starter was 35–101–3 (26.3%), the worst in NFL history among QBs with at least 100 starts. He retired having never played on a team that notched a winning record or made the playoffs.
Basing a QBs ability/worthyness on wins-losses and playoff records is not a good idea. Especially at a time when the NFL was all about defense and running the ball.
Like I said, I didn't see the guy play, but I think he is one of the few bright spots in a very very very dark history of Saints football. That alone makes him shine brighter than he should. He's no Brees. He's no Roaf. He's no Jackson. But I think he deserves his mention along with guys like Eric Martin, Johnnie Poe, Stan Brock, etc.

I have to ask, were you around to watch him play?

actually his best "play" led him to being selected NFC player of the year in 78

NFC Player of the Year 1978 (on a 7-9 team)
"If I'd played for the Saints and Archie'd played for the Cowboys, he'd be the one in the Hall of Fame." -- Roger Staubach
Also, NFL films did a feature on Archie which began "There may some question as to who is the best of the best, but there is no question Archie Manning was the best on the worst."

This is why I hardly post here

Most underated: Fred Thomas
He was pretty good when he first came here. Most think of him from his last season when he was pretty bad.

Archie is the definition of overrated. Everyone talks about how great he is, but his play never reflected that of even a good player
The most underrated player of all time is Brooks btw

well that is a reach. I have no problem separating the two. Most people from that era don't post on message boards btw

I'm glad you don't post here often, you offer no substance. Put their numbers side by side and see what happens.
For being considered such a terrible player, brooks sure accomplished a lot more
Archie had 48 turnoves in a 32 game stretch. idc how bad the team around him is, that is just plain pathetic

so during his 2 best seasons, Archie turned the ball over 48x. I'm sure that had nothing to do with the Saints poor record.
He really put the team on his back right there.
Saints finished 16th in defense that year, pretty impressive with all extra possessions they kept getting

I showed more than just wins and losses.
I am not saying he was terrible I just don't think he was very good.

Aaron Brooks 2000:
113/194 (58.2%) 1,154 yards 9 tds, 6 ints
2001:
312/588 (55.9%) 3,832 yards 26 Tds, 22 ints
2002:
283/527 (53.6%%) 3,572 yards 27 tds, 15 ints
2003:
306/518 (59.1%) 3,546 yards 24 tds, 8 ints
2004:
309/542 (57%) 3,810 yards 21tds 16 ints
He wasn't near as bad as idiots make him out to be
Archie only had 2 seasons where he threw less Ints than TD's. Even JR was able to accomplish that once in 3 seasons

nice burn.
I can't post links to conversations around new orleans. You are welcome to search yourself if you feel like it is worth your time
I'm sorry that Aaron Brooks produced more for the Saints than your beloved Archie
