Any idea what our total expenditures have been this summer? We've been active early, signing Aspas, Alberto and now Mignolet, who else is on the radar on the defensive side of the ball? Toure has to be viewed as an experienced stop gap, no?

Aspas - £7.7m
Alberto - £7m
Mignolet - £9m
Toure - Free
Also including players sold
Carroll - £15m
Ince (we were owed like 35% of his transfer) - £2.8m
So far that's a net spending of about £5.9m depending how accurate the prices are. Names were still highly linked with are probably Ilori, Atsu, and Mkhitaryan with some other guys coming up less often, but I'd expect probably another defender. Also, I'm sure at least a couple guys will be shipped out too.
I like that we've been active in getting some of the little deals done, but the window is far from over. Technically it hasn't even opened yet.
ETA: We're also apparently in for a few young academy players to keep up with the theme of building for the future

Liverpool seem to be making smart signings this summer. Mostly young players with potential to get better. Add a big signing or two and yall will definitely challenge for top 4.

It feels like we've only been signing young players the last 3 years or so.

Good business IMO. Worked out in the winter window, trying to get young, talented players looking for a chance to prove themselves. Before, buying British and players that had proven they could play in the PL wasn't exactly working out for us.

Nice recap Zaba...
I still think Papa is on our radar, no matter what the rags say, if he signs...Skrtel is probably gone.
With Soton and Cardiff going after Wanyama, I'd love to throw our hat in the ring... Raw, but would be great protection for back 4

Unless we get Schalke to drop their price a bit, I see us moving onto a different target. I've seen that Papa was our number one target this window, so I doubt we'd give up easily, but I can see why we're tentative buying someone coming off an injury who hasn't played in like half a year. Wanyama would be a hell of a signing too, but I haven't seen too much concrete info linking us with him outside of maybe two articles claiming Rodgers was interested. I know Toby Alderwield has been more heavily linked with Leverkusen, but he'd be a good buy IMO.

Yeah, I don't think we will meet their current valuation coming off an injury, though, from what I've read, we aren't really scared off by it...
I still think TA is too much like Agger to be a great partnership... I think he is a good player though...

I know he's not the vocal leader that Carragher was, but I think his athleticism and versatility is exactly what BR is looking for in trying to be able to play a higher line when the fullbacks push forward. Just my thinking

Being a Celtic guy I've watched a good bit on Wanyama. I think he's done well in attack and is always a solid defender. My only concern is that it is the SPL, and an SPL without Rangers. Success means little to nothing. However, to play devil's advocate, I thought he performed admirably against MUCH better opposition in European play, so who knows? It'll depend on the price tag for me. Given the right development (and I think Rogers does well with developing young talent) he could become something special.

Apparently his price is around £12m. I think that's a pretty fair price considering what we paid for Allen. His wages probably wouldn't be too much either.

With low wages I wouldn't have a problem with that. As I've said, he's all upside in my opinion. At very worst he's a good squad player who can come in and help shore up the defense to hold onto the lead (something we're terrible at doing anyway).

Also don't know if you guys noticed from glancing at the schedule or not - we don't play before 9CT at any point next season.

According to Tony Barret, BR has a renewed interest in Gerard Deulofeu...
The abundance of talent on Barca's roster and the addition of Neymar, really has a lot of these young guys future in the air...
I wonder if we can get them in w/no buy back clause.
Thats said, I believe quite a few teams are after him. Luckily for us, i wouldnt think CL football is a priority right away for a 19 yr old.

Hey I saw a few articles said the Suarez/RM Deal has been agreed upon ... anybody hearing this as well?
If this is true I'm glad we are wrapping this business up early.

How about an even swap of Suarez for CR7?

I've seen a few player + cash scenarios... the one I liked was Varane + £25... only because I think Varane can be one of the world's best...

Shouldn't we get more money than that? RM bought Varane 2 years ago for only £10. Even if you double his price to 20, we would be giving Luis away for only £45.
