This. And I get my knowledge because I'm educated.
It's not easy, but you can absolutely move a tree.
Hell, there are plenty of businesses that count on it.

I had a few larger trees planted in my yard. The machine they use is pretty cool. The cost was not that bad. However I didn't have them move very far.
I guess the truth of this story depends on the size and the type of tree it was.
