I've mentioned on more than one occasion that it's my favorite as well.
Peter Gabriel - Zaar (Last Temptation of Christ Soundtrack) The break at 2:11 is TRANSCENDENT

Another one that I don't listen to on its own but was incredible during the movie was the soundtrack to Sunshine.

I like this one as well.
As far as soundtracks with contemporary music -
Vision Quest
American Graffiti
Forrest Gump
Dazed and Confused
Almost Famous
Heavy Metal
Purple Rain
The Big Chill
It would be hard for me to pick a favorite out of those, because it would depend on my mood at the time. Probably Vision Quest or Heavy Metal.
