So this could be a Walt Kowalski thing where he knew he was dying from lung cancer and didn't want to bother with the mess that comes along with it.

What a bummer. He was one of my home state sports heroes. When he signed this for me at Slinger Speedway he said "Here you go young man" and I was happy because I was 30 something at the time.
