Monty has plenty of reasons to mention this to the public
1) To get the public behind the team, showing that the tides are turning and we're moving in a different direction.
2) To show our lower-tier players that if they don't want to work hard/play here, than we can find others.
3) If indeed it did happen, it lets whichever players know that Monty was listening when they went up to him without Monty actually breaking rules and contacting them.
Look, Monty may not be the greatest XO's coach in the game (massive understatement) but I think he's going to be a marvelous recruiting talent. He's a genuine father figure to his players without even having to try. That's just the type of person that he is.
I also think a few of you would be surprised about the level of player that came up to Monty and told him to keep an eye out.
I've told many people this. Les Miles and Monty Williams have a LOT in common. We just have to hope that Monty can make his bread and butter the same way that Les does, by getting legitimate talent to play here.

I was with you until that last paragraph. Good post though.

That's great. I like Monty the person. I like how outspoken he is about things. I like his Christian values. I LOVE how he can mentor some of the knuckle heads.
But he hasn't proven he's a head coach on this level.

LSU is a recruiting machine (thanks to Miles and Saban).
I don't think it's fair to put him in the same category as Miles.
