I made a hypothetical College Football ranking formula based on the promotion/relegation concept. The current 8 divisions of 15 teams (with a ninth, essentially irrelevant division) is just a starting point using the latest AP Poll and NPI ratings. The poll would start being generally accurate after Week 8. What do you think?

I think it would be exciting as hell. You'd need more teams in the top group playing for it all though. Nice work.

I just posted something like this in my unpopular sports ideas. This would be absolutely incredible but obviously would never happen due to money. My only issue with your rankings is that they are based entirely off last years results. There's no way in heck that Utah State should be four divisions ahead of Iowa, Arkansas, and Tennessee. I think a summation of the last ten years would be a more accurate guide to division set-up.

I agree somewhat, but the way the system is set up, it should fix itself after week 8 or week 10.

The divisions aren't necessarily "divisions" by the classical definition. They're merely a guideline to use when calculating the weight of a certain win or loss.

The idea did start as literal divisions, though. Like, every team would play the other 14 once for a regular season with promotions/relegations at the end of the season, with eight champions. THAT would be awesome. Imagine a season of the top 15 teams only playing each other. That's not what the thread is about, though :/

Ah I see, I read every word this time. Interesting concept. Would the schedules be made after each swap and teams play only teams in their division? Or would teams play their normal schedule? I think it's a normal schedule and this is more of a rating system to use right?

No, I'm using this for real life, and will post updates as they happen, with the resulting top 25.

IF these divisions were actual divisions, there would be only one swap after the regular season. There would be no post season, btw.

ETA: yeah, the "divisions" are only for rating purposes...I should really call them something else

Ok, I got you now. This is actually plausible the way you set it up.
