Anyone going to try and do Instruments a Comin tonight?
I'm going. Actually, my son will be playing piano as the Tipitina's foundation teen jazz combo will be playing first around 8:30.
I went to all three days of Fest this weekend.
The big ones I saw--Billy Joel, Earth, Wind, and Fire were great, of course.
But for me Fest is all about folks I hadn't seen or even heard about that catch me by surprise.
Three stood out:
Calexico (Gentilly Stage Sunday)--Rock with a Latin tinge, great horns, and killer guitars.
Mississippi Rail Company (Lagniappe Stage Saturday)--all in black suits, piano, standup bass, drum, horns. A mix of rock and swing that blew us away.
Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires (Blues Tent Saturday)--dude started as a James Brown impersonator before he was discovered. Rarely do you see a performer with his energy and voice. He has successfully taken Brown's place as the "hardest working man in show business"!

Agreed. I wanted that 3 pick-up funky looking Airline the singer was playing. He had a great voice, too.
I really enjoyed Honey Island Swamp Band and Raw Oyster Cult as well.
