I think the timing might've had something to do with taking attention off Uli Hoeness's dumb arse evading taxes. The tax evasion is a massive massive story in Germany. He's very well known public figure and has even spoke out about people in Spain (i think, them or France) not paying taxes and burdening their government. He's also buddy buddy with Merkel, if I'm not mistaken.
