we've all been screwed by a boat mechanic at one point in our lives before.Last mechanic I had rebuild my old Johnson 200 Venom forgot to install one of the main carb to intake gaskets. That cylinder ran lean and I ended up throwing a rod. Dude told me "Well,you knew something was wrong with it after you picked it up from me,why did you keep running it?" 
Motherfricker wouldn't warranty the engine.

That would've resulted in a bucket of spilled roofing nails if it were me.
